Travels Over Feeling: The Music of Arthur Russell
Barbican Centre, Barbican Hall, EC2Y 8DS , [Venue Details]Played by Speakers Corner Quartet and friends.
An evening celebrating the life and work of American musician and composer Arthur Russell: ‘One of the 20th-century’s true musical visionaries.’ (The Guardian)
Across a twenty-year career Russell created a pioneering body of work that defied classification and continues to influence the music of today. Russell was resistant to the idea of genre, and his talent allowed him to excel in any number of styles and dialogues.
Tonight's concert is performed by Speaker's Corner Quartet – a close-knit, creatively fluid collective who performed sell-out show 'Further out than the Edge' at the Barbican in 2021. They first got together in 2006 starting out as the house band at the open-mic night in Brixton. They will be joined on stage by ambient pop artist Lucinda Chua on cello and other members of their musical family to be announced.
This event celebrates the release of author Richard King's landmark publication, Travels over Feeling: Arthur Russell, A Life.
